Exercise 3: Table of Contents of Interest

This exercise is going to help you further pinpoint what interests you. Grab a pen and paper (or something to take notes) and a stack of business and trade publications.

You’re going to start by scanning the Table of Contents of each publication. What articles pique your interest? What featured companies do you feel drawn to? What industries fascinate you?

Write down the headings for everything that seems like something you may want to learn more about. Once you have a hefty list you can either read the articles to narrow your list down, or you can look over your list to see if there are patterns in the topics you wrote.

This activity is a quick way to get you started on gaining an understanding of what you find interesting. It’s a great first step in learning more about where you may want to go next in your career.
